OVERVIEW
HERCULANEUM HIGH SCHOOL IS WORKING WITH JEFFERSON COLLEGE TO OFFER DISCOUNTED COLLEGE CREDIT HOURS WHILE STUDENTS ARE IN HIGH SCHOOL. IT IS CALLED DUAL CREDIT BECAUSE STUDENTS WILL BE EARNING HIGH SCHOOL CREDIT AT THE SAME TIME THEY ARE EARNING COLLEGE CREDIT, BUILDING TWO TRANSCRIPTS AT ONCE!

Herculaneum High School and Jefferson College have reached a tuition agreement of $75 per credit hour. All of the courses offered are 3 credit hour courses. Herculaneum will cover 2/3 of the cost, Jefferson College waives 1/3 of the cost. Traditional college students will pay $100 a credit hour. Our students are getting a $300 course for FREE. In addition, Herculaneum will cover the cost of books.**Students who drop a course after the deadline will be asked to reimburse the school district for the cost of books and ⅔ tuition for the class that was dropped.

All of the courses offered as part of the dual credit program are requirements for an Associate of Arts Degree at Jefferson College. If you don’t plan on attending Jefferson College after graduation, these courses are transferable to most colleges and universities.
Herculaneum High School students have the opportunity to graduate with 1 year of college complete. All dual credit courses are weighted courses on your high school transcript, boosting your weighted GPA. |

Transferring college credit after graduation:
- Dual credit courses taught by Herculaneum teachers: Introduction to College, College Algebra, College Pre-Calculus
- Dual enrollment courses, online, taught by college instructors that are built into the student's schedule. This includes Any Course on the 42 Hour General Education Block.
- Early College Academy. This is a highly selective program that allows students to earn their Associate's degree while in high school.
- Dual enrollment courses focussed on an Associate of Arts in teaching. Teacher Education Courses - Courses for Students Planning to Major in Education -- High school students interested in pursuing a degree in teaching are now eligible to take the introductory course (EDU 105 Exploring the Field of Education) through dual enrollment. There is also potential for them to take EDU 205 Educational Technology, if they meet the prerequisites
- Pre-Health Courses - Courses for students who plan to apply to Allied Health or Pre-Medical degrees--English Composition I, General Psychology, General Chemistry I, Anatomy & Physiology I & II, College Algebra
